This product is polycaprolactone, a type of thermoplastic sold under names like Polymorph, InstaMorph, and Worbla. This brand worked just as well as more expensive name brands that I’ve tried.Polycaprolactone is a solid at room temperature, but transitions to a clear, gel-like substance at around 60C/140F, a temperature easy to achieve with boiling water or a heat gun. While it will not become a pourable liquid, the soft gel it forms can be molded into both simple and complex shapes. It turns opaque again as it cools and hardens. Polycaprolactone will not stick to silicone or nitrile, meaning you can use silicone containers to melt or mold it and nitrile gloves to keep you finger prints off it.It can be used for crafting costumes or cosplay props, or used around the house, and is a simpler to use and non-toxic alternative to 3D printing or resins. It can be re-heated and re-shaped repeatedly, so instead of tossing it you can just re-shape it. Do note that it’s original form, little pellets, is designed to maximize surface area and promote rapid phase transition. Once you’ve formed it into a larger or more solid shape you will find melting it will take much longer, so you may prefer to cut it into smaller pieces first.Polycaprolactone is fairly environmentally friendly, as plastics go, and not only because it can be reused so many times. It can be composted in industrial facilities (theoretically it should break down in a home compost system as well, but I can’t speak to that personally) or put in the trash as it will break down in landfills.
